Based on the mechanisms of the disease, the therapy of leaky gut syndrome is based on several simple principles:

  • Elimination of potential triggers
  • Diet optimization
  • Improvement of food digestion
  • Normalization of gut microflora
  • Optimization of mucosal immune responses
  • Restoration of the tight junctions

There are several dietary items that you should avoid:

  • Milk products (butter, buttermilk, cheese, cottage cheese, ice cream, ice milk, kefir, milk, quark, yogurt)
  • Grains (amaranth, barley, buckwheat, bulgur, corn, cous-cous, kamut, millet, oats, quinoa, rice, rye, semolina, spelt, triticale, wheat, wild rice)
  • Legumes (peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas, soy/tofu, etc.)
  • Starchy vegetables (beets, carrots, parsnips, potatoes, pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes, turnip, yams)
  • High glycemic fruits (banana, dried fruits, fruit juices)
  • Sugars (brown sugar, cane juice, corn syrup, Demerara sugar, dextri-maltose, dextrose, glucose, icing sugar, malto-dextrin, maltose, maple sugar, molasses, raw sugar, rice syrup, sucrose, table sugar, turbinado sugar, white sugar.)
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Spicy food

Food supplements are a vital part of the therapeutic protocols targeting leaky gut syndrome.

Leaky Gut Aid has specific ingredients that work together to heal leaky gut.

There are two versions of this product, day and night, that are meant to be taken in conjunction with each other—it is best practice for you to take both at the same time. There is a loading dose that lasts for six months and a maintenance dose.

Loading dose (six months):
Leaky gut day: take two capsules in the morning and two at noon. (Preferably on an empty stomach either 20 minutes before a meal or 30 after.)
Leaky gut night: take two capsules between dinner and before going to bed at night. Preferably on an empty stomach.

Maintenance dose:
Leaky gut day: take one capsule in the morning and one at noon.
Leaky gut night: take one capsule between dinner and going to bed at night.

Leaky Gut Aid-Day
Has fast acting sodium butyrate and Calcium D-Glucarate. Calcium D-Glucarate is a vital nutritional supplement in the therapy of leaky gut syndrome. It inhibits glucuronidase an enzyme produced by gut microorganisms that increases intestinal permeability and facilitates the reabsorption of toxic substances through the intestinal wall. By inhibiting glucuronidase that not only decreases the ‘leakiness’ of the ailed gut but also enhances the body’s detox potential.

Leaky Gut Aid-Night
Has slow absorbing calcium and magnesium butyrate and L-glutamine. L-glutamine is an amino acid and serves as a structural component of various proteins. It plays a vital role in maintenance of intestinal integrity and permeability.

An additional supplement that may be beneficial during the loading and maintenance phases is our leaky gut probiotic

What each ingredient is designed to do: Pediococcus acidilactici is a probiotic gram positive coccus that is commonly found in fermented vegetables, fermented dairy products and meat. Pediococci suppress growth of pathogenic bacteria and certain parasites via production of lactic acid and natural antibiotics known as pediocins.

Lactobacillus plantarum is a Gram-positive bacterium naturally found in many fermented food products including sauerkraut, pickles, brined olives, Korean kimchi, sourdough, and other fermented plant material. Lactobacillus plantarum feeds beneficial gut bacteria and kills pathogenic bacteria.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a species of Lactobacilli which occurs naturally in the human and animal gastrointestinal tract and in many dairy products. Supports good bacteria in the gut, prevention of diarrhea, reduction of symptoms of eczema and atopic dermatitis and reduces intestinal pain.

What is the end goal?

The goal of this protocol is to send your leaky gut into remission.

What is butyrate?

Butyrate is a short chain fatty acid derived from the microbial fermentation of dietary fibers in the colon. Butyrate salts, including calcium and magnesium butyrate, are the regulators of intestinal integrity and gene expression (both in the intestine and in various internal organs). At the intestinal level, butyrate regulates fluid transport, controls intestinal permeability, modulates inflammatory and immune responses, suppresses yeast (candida) overgrowth and optimizes intestinal motility.

Are these products safe for children?

We do not recommend the Leaky Gut Aid products that have butyrate in them (Leaky Gut Day and Night) for children under 16 years of age. The Leaky Gut Probiotic is safe for children who are at least 80 pounds.
